April 5, 2020: Online Palm Sunday at the Cathedral

For those of any Faith (Jews, Christians, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists...) I post this video of tomorrow's Christian service of the palms, symbolizing the honored spreading of Palm Branches on the road that Jesus on a colt entered Jerusalem as a kind of lowly king yet loved by the common man and woman witnessing it....

A Christian Liturgy of the Palms - Palm Sunday from the Washington Episcopal Cathedral in Washington, DC on April 5, 2020   -  Due to the Coronavirus social distancing Episcopalians around the world attended this service virtually.

The German philosopher, Immanuel Kant, in his Critique of Judgment, a treatise on the Beautiful and the Sublime said in that there are two visions that present Sublime beauty for human beings, first, the starry heavens above, second, the moral law within.

Most of us can feel sublimity contemplating this image, because it conveys our tiny, insignificant place in the vast creation of the universe,  but Kant felt the same awe and beauty when he thought about the ethical law planted within human nature, because it lead us to our final happiness as human persons.

Inverstigations into the Anthropic Principle

The question of design in the universe is an immensely interesting question.  Philosophers advocating an orderly design have pointed out the presence of purposeful behavior implied by the structure of organisms (ears designed to hear, eyes designed to see, universal constants fine-tuned to such a degree as to all but rule out chance completely.

The strong form of this principle suggests that a kind of final causality at work guiding the evolution of the universe toward the conditions favorable to intelligent life.  Many scientists agree that a certain fine-tuning of forces in nature had to be extremely precise so make it possible for me to be writing this, and you to be reading it.
